About Our Students
While many of our students that will be attending Heavenly Dream School's English revival camp and participating in our Hip Hop Empowerment workshop are native South Koreans, a high percentage of these students are teenage North Korean refugees. These students risked their very lives trying to escape, and if caught before reaching South Korea, they could have faced landing in a North Korean prison/labor camps along with all family members where they would have been subjected to torture, sexual abuse, medical and chemical experimentation, or even immediate execution. Most of the North Korean students are girls. They have a higher survival rate compared to the boys trying to escape because they make it across the borders being bought and sold in sex trade. Gift Bags and Financial Contributions
Our program will be servicing 450 students. In order to ensure that this project is a success, we are raising funds to be able to provide travel and lodging for a minimum of 6 instructors. We are inviting our friends, colleagues and members of the Hip Hop community to get involved with our program by donating promotional items to include in raffles and gift bags for the students. Curriculum
Our program is designed to provide an overview of Hip Hop Culture, its history, and how it relates to the daily spiritual themes of the Revival camp, an introduction to the Four Elements that make up Hip Hop, and fundamentals of Hip Hop dance styles. We will also be providing the students with an informational booklet which will include Hip Hop History, inspiring Hip Hop Poetry, Biographies, and Visual art, as well as information on local resources where they can continue to learn and become more involved with Hip Hop culture and it's art forms.
